This is just word of mouth. However what I've heard is that the red cross doesn't put the money all into the survivors they mostly keep it for themselves. Please do some serious research if you plan on donating to them, because I believe it to be just a big scam.

Re: Please dont donate to Red Cross!
Wed, September 7, 2005 - 6:21 AMyou'd best check your facts before you post stuff like this. the red cross has provided a very close friend of mine with funds to purchase clothing and food, so i know firsthand that they are doing exactly what they say they will with the money that they collect. how do you think that an organization that publicizes so broadly how much money they've collected would manage to just keep the money for themselves? don't you think that a few eyebrows would be raised if the response wasn't in proportion to what was being donated? have you *been* to a katrina shelter even? the red cross is helping a ton of people with the money they receive.
personally, i am getting sick of all of this finger pointing. i wish that people who spent so much time complaining about the response and such would put their energy into doing something constructive. go volunteer at a shelter. we can use the help.

Re: Please dont donate to Red Cross!
Wed, September 7, 2005 - 12:14 PMThank You!
For those too busy to click the link.......
91.1% of all funds collected at Red Cross go to the programs/ disasters that Red Cross funds /assists.
That sounds like a pretty good number to me, and that only puts a small percentage of the money to pay expenses like marketing and payment of their (few) employees.
Better to know what you are talking about before spreading rumors!
